Within the last few weeks, the state’s Cabinet for Economic Development released a decade-long, reflective blueprint for rural and urban economic growth in the Commonwealth.
During Monday afternoon’s South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council meeting, Executive Director Carter Hendricks said his office has served as part of their steering committee — going so far as taking part in a framework call with Cabinet Secretary Jeff Noel Monday morning.
Hendricks said they don’t specifically have a list of what the state considers as new and/or ongoing development, but since 2015, Christian County has had 60 announcements, while Trigg and Todd counties have had eight.
That SWK EDC Appreciation Luncheon, Hendricks reminded, is set for 11:30 AM until 1 PM October 29 at the Bruce Convention Center, where several awards will be doled, and a special presentation will be delivered by a national power authority.
Hendricks and the delegation offered congratulations to Sandra Hancock, who last week was promoted to Christian County Public Schools Academy Coach ahead of district consolidation.
Hendricks further noted that CCPS has 110 co-op students for this academic year. Of those, 70 have already found placement within the community, and the other 40 (or so) are still looking for a good match.
The main reason the SWK EDC met in special session Monday, Hendricks said, is because the office is one of many official sponsors of next week’s Transatlantic Business & Investment Council and Conference.
Held in Chicago, Hendricks noted much is on the docket for their stay.
The August 28 Pennyrile Industrial Managers Association meeting will take place from 12-1 PM at the Christian County Extension Office, and will have city and county representation from Trigg, Christian and Todd in a panel discussion talking about relevant economic subjects to their community and region.
Organized and implemented by the Pennyrile Area Development District, Hendricks said his office will take part in this year’s return of the “Pride of the Pennyrile.” Planned for September 25 at Lake Barkley State Resort Park, regional industries and their business partners are invited out for boat cruising and other friendly activities.
