A Paducah Police Sergeant passed away earlier this week, with his death classified as being in the line of duty after being attributed to the stress of a recent fatal shooting response.
According to West Kentucky Star, 32-year-old Sergeant Ryan Hudson died Tuesday evening after an underlying cardiac condition was triggered by the high-stress situation.
Paducah Police Chief Brian Laird stated that Hudson was a supervisor in the immediate aftermath of a Boyd Street shooting last Saturday that claimed the lives of a woman and her unborn child. Despite feeling ill, Hudson stayed on the job before his condition worsened and he was hospitalized.
Laird said the federal classification of Hudson’s death as being in the line of duty will provide benefits to his wife and children. The police department has also established a specific fund for the Hudson family, with information on how to donate found below.
