Governor Andy Beshear has announced the launch of StopScams.ky.gov, a new statewide resource aimed at helping Kentuckians recognize, report, and recover from scams.
The site is part of a broader campaign to combat a growing wave of fraud targeting Kentuckians, who collectively lost over $74 million to scams in 2024 alone, according to the FBI.
The new website offers easy access to:
-
Tips on spotting common and emerging scams
-
Information on how to report fraud
-
Recovery resources for scam victims
-
Sign-ups for scam alerts via text or email
StopScams.ky.gov was developed by the Public Protection Cabinet in collaboration with partners like the Better Business Bureau, AARP Kentucky, and law enforcement agencies, all working toward a shared goal of protecting Kentuckians’ financial security.
The campaign’s core message is “Pause. Check. Protect.”
-
Pause when contacted by an unfamiliar person or business
-
Check with trusted sources before acting or sharing personal info
-
Protect your identity and finances by staying informed
Officials say the rise of AI-powered scams, spoofed text messages, and phishing emails makes education more important than ever. Recent scam examples include fake toll or traffic ticket payment requests impersonating state agencies.
The Public Protection Cabinet also noted that scams can affect people of any age, and encouraged Kentuckians to check in with vulnerable friends or family members.
