A man was charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon after a traffic stop on Interstate 169 in Christian County Tuesday.

Christian County Sheriff’s deputies say they stopped a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Fernando Irizarry Arroyo for a problem with his registration plate and could smell the odor of marijuana.

He reportedly refused to show proof of insurance, and after a search, a valid Tennessee plate was located along with a .38 caliber handgun.

He was arrested and charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, no registration plates, improper display of registration plates, and failure to maintain required insurance.
