Trigg Farm Tour Celebrates Innovation And Heritage

Temperatures in the lower 90’s and a heat advisory did not deter a large crowd from attending the Trigg County Farm Tour Thursday.

Trigg County Judge Executive Stan Humphries helped kick the tour off during the first stop at Seven Springs Farms Straw Blanket manufacturing facility. Humprhies says the return of the farm tour several years ago continued a long-standing tradition.

Humphries says the farm tour typically brings local participants and visitors from other areas.

He adds the farm tour is an important way to focus on the impact of farming and the agriculture industry.

The tour began as Joe and Ashley Nichols discussed the history and economics of the strong blanket factory that is located in the former Crop Production buildings on Hopkinsville Road.

The second stop on the tour was at Lester Farms near Gracey where tour participants heard from four of the five generations of the Lester family; Bill, Gary, Micah, and Clayton Lester. The discussed the history of the farm and the innovation they use in their farming operation.

The final stop was at Circle F. Farms where fourth generation livestock farmer John David Fourqurean discussed their beef cattle operation and University of Kentucky Beef Specialist Kevin Larent talked about the history of the West Kentucky Select Bred Heifer Sales and how the sales have improved genetics in cattle herds around the area.

The tour concluded with a lunch stop at the Trigg County Recreation Complex where tour participants enjoyed Genesis Express barbeque and ice cream from Chaney’s Dairy.
