Francis ‘Mac’ McDermott, 84, of Cadiz

Francis Michael “Mac” McDermott, age 84, of Cadiz, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Continue Care Hospital at Baptist Health in Madisonville, Kentucky.

Born on March 6, 1941, in Cumberland, Maryland, he was the son of the late George McDermott and Jean Mitchell McDermott.

Mac entered the military in 1961, proudly serving his country in the United States Army and later continuing his service as an Active Guard Reservist at multiple duty stations. He had over 35 years combined service to his country. After a distinguished career, he retired from active duty service with the rank of Master Sergeant.

Mac was a Christian and a member of the Caldwell Blue Spring Baptist Church. He was a huge Notre Dame Fighting Irish football fan and loved to watch his grandkids play soccer. His weekly Thursday outings with his wife Donna and Diantha and Gaylon Stallons were a highlight of his week, allowing him to spend time surrounded by those he loved most.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, George Bernard McDermott and Patrick McDermott; his sister, Rachel Finan; his daughter-in-law, Diane McDermott; and a great-grandchild, Baby Edwards.

Mac is survived by his devoted wife of over 51 years, Donna Munger McDermott of Cadiz. He is also survived by his four children: Michael McDermott and Matthew McDermott (Cindy), both of Wesley Chapel, FL, Darla Gallagher (John) of Gracey, KY and Susan Crisp (Jonathon) of Cadiz. He took immense pride in his role as Pop Pop to his eleven grandchildren: Jessica, Bethany, and Erin McDermott, Jordan and Kennedy Holloman, Madisyn Edwards, Tucker Gallagher, Nathan Harsey, Daisy Crisp, and Mackenzie and Kailee DeLancey, and his four great-grandchildren: Declan Harsey, Aria Edwards, Scarlett Holloman, and Opie Crook.

A memorial service will be held at a later date with burial in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West.

To honor Mac’s life, the family suggests donations to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at www.t2t.org.

Goodwin Funeral Home, 138 Main Street in Cadiz, is in care of the arrangements.
