Sammie Kay Radford, 76, of Cadiz

Sammie Kay Radford, age 76, of Cadiz, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 21, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky, with her son and daughter-in-law at her side.

Sammie was born on August 26, 1948, in Tennessee, to the late Samuel C. Ross and Anna Teola Speck Ross.

Sammie worked as a cashier for many years at Sivills Grocery in Cadiz and later retired as “Mom” from White Hydraulics, where she made many significant and lifelong friendships. Sammie’s closest friends were made at Knob Creek Gun Range where she camped for decades, allowing her passion for cooking to be on full display as she made mass meals for anyone who needed a bite. Sammie was a selfless person who would give anything she had if she thought someone else needed it, regardless of whether she knew you or not. She enjoyed talking with her friends, family and strangers; yearly trips to Florida; collecting trains; shopping with her sister Roberta; and cooking and feeding friends and family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister and best-friend, Roberta Ross Thomas; her sister, Mary Ann McNichols, and her nephew, Aubrey Howell Flatt.

She is survived by her greatest source of pride, her son, Kevin (Dana) Radford of Louisville; granddaughters, Bobbi Jo Matlock and Benna (Ryan) Briggs, both of Cadiz; great-grandchildren, Harper Matlock of Louisville and Roman Briggs of Cadiz; nephews, Greg (Sabrina) McNichols and Ricky (Dianne) McNichols, both of Cadiz and Ross (Charlotte) Flatt of Lexington.

Arrangements are being handled by Goodwin Funeral Home, Inc. 138 Main Street in Cadiz, where the family will receive friends on Saturday, July 26, 2025, 11:00AM – 1:00PM, with a graveside service to follow at 2:00PM at Morgan Cemetery in Bumpus Mills, Tennessee.

Memorial contributions can be made to Sierra Club, Kentucky Chapter at Kentucky Sierra Club PAC, PO Box 2368, Lexington KY 40588 or to a charity of your choice.
