A Crofton fire truck was hit by a vehicle while they worked to extinguish a vehicle fire on Interstate 169 Tuesday afternoon.
Crofton Fire Department Assistant Chief Brian Diamond says they were working to extinguish a van fire at the 19-mile marker when their truck was hit by a box truck.
Diamond says it’s important for all drivers to slow down and move over when they see emergency vehicles.
No one was injured in the crash, Diamond says they have a policy to park their brush truck that was hit at an angle to keep firefighters and the main fire engine safe in situations like this.
Kentucky passed its move-over law in 2003, requiring motorists to move over to the adjacent lane when approaching an emergency vehicle or public safety vehicle with flashing lights, according to the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety.
Diamond says their truck is totaled, but what matters is all firefighters are uninjured.
