The Christian County Grand Jury returned several indictments Friday, including on charges of assault, vehicle theft and police pursuits that happened in April and May.
A true bill was returned on Shadymon Buckner, of Hopkinsville, on a single count of first-degree assault in connection to a May shooting on Liberty Street.
Buckner is accused of shooting 24-year-old Jaleon Dyess of Hopkinsville in the neck. Hopkinsville Police said Dyess was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
Jamario Whitlock, of Hopkinsville, was indicted on charges of first-degree burglary, convicted felon in possession of a handgun, tampering with physical evidence, violation of conditions of release, first-degree indecent exposure, two counts of second-degree indecent exposure, alcohol intoxication, third-degree fleeing or evading police, and four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment involving discharging a firearm.
Hopkinsville Police arrested Whitlock in May after officers said he got into a fight with someone inside an apartment on Cooperfield Avenue, exposed himself, and fired a shot into the apartment, hitting the door. Police said no one was injured in the shooting.
A true bill was returned on William Hoskins, of Hopkinsville, on charges of theft by unlawful taking over $1,000 but less than $10,000, first-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, speeding, third-degree assault of a police officer, and first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer.
Hoskins is accused of stealing a vehicle from the Food Giant area and then fleeing from police. Hopkinsville Police said as Hoskins fled, he hit a police cruiser and then wrecked the vehicle on Eagle Way between the Princeton and Cadiz roads.
Devonta Burse, of Hopkinsville, was indicted on charges of second-degree fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, fourth-degree assault, second-degree stalking, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, and abandonment of a vehicle on a public road.
Burse is accused of assaulting his girlfriend on Riverfront Drive in May. Hopkinsville Police said when they arrived, Burse ran and then swam across Little River before he was taken into custody.
And a true bill was returned on Shaquan Harris, of Hopkinsville, on charges of first-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol with aggravator, failure of owner to maintain required insurance, reckless driving, and second-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer.
The charges are in connection with a May disturbance on Florence Street. Hopkinsville Police reported that Harris was sleeping in a house, and the owner wanted him to leave. As he was leaving, police said he hit the woman’s car and then fled from officers when they arrived. Police used a precision immobilization technique to end the pursuit near Hoptown Donuts on North Drive.
