Hopkinsville Community College has been awarded more than $250,000 through the Delta Regional Authority’s Delta Workforce Grant Program to boost workforce training in south western Kentucky.
The funding will help expand hands-on training in electrical, construction, and HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) technologies. These programs are designed to prepare students for high-quality jobs in growing industries while meeting local and regional labor demands.
HCC’s investment is one of 25 projects across eight states receiving a share of nearly $7 million from the DRA. The grants, ranging from $50,000 to $300,000, are focused on employment, training, and economic opportunity throughout the Mississippi River Delta and Alabama Black Belt regions.
Dr. Corey Wiggins, DRA Federal Co-Chairman, noted the Delta Workforce Grant Program is an essential tool that prioritizes projects supporting workforce employment and training needs in the DRA region, and that these investments will result in nearly 2,500 jobs created or retained, about 3,000 individuals trained, and over 300 communities served.
In Kentucky, HCC and the Lifeline Recovery Center in Western Kentucky received funding this cycle.
