Halfway through the calendar, the Cadiz Police Department finds itself as busy as it’s been all year.

That’s according to Cadiz Police Chief Tyler Thomas, who during Tuesday’s Cadiz City Council meeting provided a comprehensive update on the month of June — and what to expect in the coming months.

In the last 40 days, Thomas said CPD has investigated 14 cases leading to four arrests.

While there were only 320 calls for service, around one per day, Thomas added that 36 traffic stops were made leading to 16 citations, and seven alarm calls were answered. Four collisions occurred, as well, with zero involving injury.

Thomas also noted a new trainee will arrive this fall.

That being said, Thomas added that the department’s most recent application window closed at the end of business July 1, and his office has received multiple applications and resumes for employment — with several interviews already conducted, and several more to follow. Background processes for selection have already begun for some positions, and Thomas affirmed decisions on new hires will be made “in the next couple of weeks,” pending the completion of more interviews, background checks and testing phases.

Another new vehicle has also already arrived.

Former Assistant Cadiz Police Chief Jack Lingenfelter has officially transitioned into City of Cadiz employment as its new administrative officer.
