The Kentucky League of Cities has honored Senator Craig Richardson of Hopkinsville with the 2025 “Friend of Kentucky Cities” award.

The recognition was presented by KLC Government Affairs Director Gracie Kelly and Government Affairs Counsel Lauren Lewis, alongside local officials from Hopkinsville and Oak Grove.

The award highlights Senator Richardson’s legislative efforts during the 2025 Regular Session, particularly his sponsorship of House Bill 131 in the Senate. The KLC-backed bill allows fire departments in former second-class cities and urban-county governments—including Hopkinsville—to adopt alternative firefighter schedules aimed at improving recruitment and retention.

In only his first session, Richardson has already made an impact by supporting policies that directly benefit local communities. KLC leaders expressed appreciation for his early contributions and voiced optimism about a strong, ongoing partnership to strengthen cities across the state.

The “Friend of Kentucky Cities” award is presented to lawmakers who show exceptional leadership and commitment to city-focused legislation and the needs of Kentucky’s municipalities.
