The hottest weather of 2025 is set to arrive over the next few days. With that, the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory, which will go into effect at noon on Saturday and stay in place until at least 8pm Tuesday.
Forecasters say heat index values between 100 to 108 are expected during the time period over portions of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western Kentucky, and southeast Missouri. They add that there will be very little relief from the heat during the evening and overnight hours.
The National Weather Service points out that this will be the first prolonged stretch of heat and humidity of the season and will cause heat impacts to be greater than normal.
Officials remind area residents to be sure and drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room when possible, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
If you have to be outside, you are advised to take extra precautions. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. And, take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
