A wreck on North Drive at the entrance to the Hopkinsville Rail Trail killed a Hopkinsville man Sunday morning.
Hopkinsville Police say an SUV driven by 44-year-old Walter Wilson was stopped at the intersection of West 7th Street when a passerby went to check on him, he drove off, traveling through a parking lot, then into the river.
The SUV hit a gas line before coming to a stop. Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene by the Christian County Coroner’s Office.
North Drive was blocked for several hours as they worked to get to him and the vehicle due to the large embankment.
His name was released after authorities notified his next of kin. The crash happened just before 3 am.
