Carl Fort, 72, of Jacksonville, Florida

Carl Blane Fort, age 72, a native of Cadiz, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at his home in Jacksonville, Florida.

Carl was born on July 12, 1952, in Murray, Kentucky, to the late Wilton Blane Fort and wife Hattie Bridges Fort, both natives of Trigg County. His father was affiliated as butcher with Thurman Market and Mrs. Fort was a cosmetologist. Circa 1953 the family relocated to Cadiz where Mr. Fort and his brother, William C. Fort, operated a grocery, later establishing the first supermarket in Trigg County. The family was active in Cadiz Baptist Church, Mrs. Fort being a leader of the Girls in Action, as well as being a den mother for Carl’s Cub Scout troop.

Carl graduated from Trigg County High School in 1970, having served as manager for the TCHS Wildcats basketball team. He was an ardent enthusiast of athletic programs in high school and college. He was an alumnus of Western Kentucky University at Bowling Green. As a teenager he worked at the Cadiz Restaurant, which was owned and operated by his parents. After education pursuits, Carl made a lifetime career in the food service industry in various locations in Florida.

Mr. Fort is survived by numerous cousins and distant relatives.

A family memorial service will be conducted at Trigg Memory Acres at a future time to be announced.

Goodwin Funeral Home, 138 Main Street in Cadiz, is in care of the arrangements.
