Man Charged With Assaulting And Choking A Woman

A Hopkinsville man was charged with assaulting a woman, choking her, and hitting her with a belt on West 2nd Street in Hopkinsville Thursday morning.

Hopkinsville Police say they received a call to respond to a home on West 2nd Street and located 30-year-old Elijah Boodoosingh at the home, who told them everything was okay, but they could see a woman inside the home and asked her to step outside.

Police say she claimed Boodoosingh took her phone, hit her with a belt several times, choked her 10 or more times until she lost consciousness, and slapped her in the face.

Boodoosingh ran into the home, shutting the door on law enforcement, then fled before being tased and taken into custody. He is charged with fourth-degree assault, intimidating a participant in the legal process, first-degree strangulation, first-degree fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, and second-degree unlawful imprisonment.
