An Oak Grove man was arrested on several warrants after attempts to avoid being stopped by law enforcement on Fort Campbell Boulevard Saturday afternoon.

Oak Grove Police say they noticed a motorcycle driven by 40-year-old Donald Merritt that was in front of them turn onto Gate 7 Road, then come up behind them on Fort Campbell Boulevard.

Merritt then reportedly turned into the Sonic parking lot, parked, and then moved to the opposite side when law enforcement pulled into the parking lot.

Police say that as they walked up to the motorcycle and found that the tag had expired in May of 2022, they were told Merritt was inside the restaurant, hanging around. When police entered the business, Merritt started making his way to the back door but was stopped by law enforcement.

After being arrested and charged with failure to register transfer of a motor vehicle, no registration receipt, failure to maintain required insurance, and no motorcycle license, Merritt was found to have seven warrants for failure to appear.

While at the jail, he reportedly tried to get rid of a bag of suspected marijuana by dropping it on the floor, and a digital scale was found in his possession.

Merritt was then also charged with second-degree promoting contraband, tampering with physical evidence, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
