Lynch Takes Alford Plea In Domestic Violence Case

Set to begin his trial in Christian County Circuit Court Thursday afternoon in Hopkinsville, 59-year-old John Lynch entered an Alford plea of guilt during jury selection — admitting there was sufficient enough evidence against him for conviction of second-degree assault domestic violence, first-degree strangulation domestic violence related and violation of an EPO/DVO.

Lynch’s official sentencing is scheduled for 8:30 AM June 11, but Commowealth’s Attorney Maureen Leamy and her staff are recommending five years in prison, and remain opposed to probation and shock probation.

A Cadiz man, Lynch was arrested September 2024, when he entered a home in Hopkinsville while his wife was sleeping, twice electrocuted her, sat on top of her, choked her while threatening to kill her, and ripped her clothes.

As she tried to escape, police reported he pulled her by her hair and back into the home.

Police also said the victim suffered several injuries, including burns from the electrical cord that was used to electrocute her.

Lynch was later arrested by the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office on a Hopkinsville warrant, and he was originally charged with intimidating a participant in a legal process, violation of a Kentucky EPO/DVO, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, second-degree assault, second-degree strangulation and first-degree burglary.

Burglary, unlawful imprisonment and intimidating a participant in a legal process charges were all dismissed in his plea.

Judge John Atkins presided over the trial’s beginning.
