The Hopkins County Health Department announced late Tuesday afternoon that it is conducting an epidemiological investigation into a potential case of measles.

Public Health Director Denise Beach says that while the case has not been confirmed yet, medical offices and the air have been thoroughly cleaned as a precaution. She says if the lab test confirms measles, everyone who may have been exposed will be notified as soon as the results are available.

According to Beach, individuals who are vaccinated against measles have a low risk. However, she notes that there is a risk for children under 12 months who are too young to be vaccinated and for those who are unvaccinated, since measles is highly contagious.

Beach says they will keep the public informed on the health department’s website and social media.

No other information was released.
