Fresh off of Memorial Day festivities all across the community, Christian County’s Fiscal Court convened Tuesday morning — closing with a 40-minute executive session surrounding personnel discussions conducted by Christian County’s jailer, Adam Smith.

Following, magistrates unanimously approved to enter into a six-month memorandum of understanding for a continued contract with Ashley Boze LLC and her staff at Empowered Minds Behavioral Health System — in order to maintain their efforts behind the successful Substance Abuse Program, or SAP.

In February, officials announced that Christian County’s SAP had received a perfect score on its audit from the Department of Corrections’ Division of Addiction Services…no easy feat in the world of rehabilitation.

Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam, as well as Smith, both confirmed the services were “pivotal” for inmate treatment.

In other fiscal court news:

— County Clerk Melinda Humphries affirmed that Fraud Detection Notification Services are now available for free to Christian County citizens.

Behind simple online registration (at fraudalertme.com/ChristianKYNW/frauddetection.asp), Humphries said the purpose is to provide notifications when a document is recorded in the County Clerk’s Office when it matches one’s name.

The reason for all of this, she said, is to create another step to deny and defeat identity theft.

Humphries said notifications are delivered under exact matches, and as such, citizens can enter up to five different first names, five different last names and five different suffixes in order to get those notifications. For example, someone might be known as “CHARLES” or “CHARLIE,” and that can be designated through the registration.

— Lucas Stagner, with the Hopkinsville Fire Department and Christian County Rescue, said FEMA officials have been out “knocking on doors” talking with home and business owners. The deadline to apply for Individual Assistance is June 24, with Christian County’s Disaster Recovery Center located at Murray State University’s regional campus. Those needing help to move brush can call 270-887-6253.

— Four dates to remember: the Christian County Regional Animal Shelter is holding its annual “Dog Days of Summer” from 9 AM until 4 PM June 5-7, the Oak Grove Community Center Pancake Brunch is from 10 AM until 1 PM June 6, the Pennyrile Area Development District Annual Dinner begins at 6 PM Monday, June 9, at the Bruce Convention Center, and the next Christian County Fiscal Court meeting is 8:30 AM Tuesday, June 10.
