A Christian County grand jury handed down multiple indictments Friday, including incidents involving shootings and police pursuits.
A true bill was returned on Soloman Burgess, of Hopkinsville, on a single count of first-degree assault.
Burgess is accused of shooting a man on February 9, which caused serious injuries. The incident was investigated by the Hopkinsville Police Department.
The grand jury returned separate indictments for Demontae Burse and Jwon Thomas, both of Hopkinsville, charging each with four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment for firing a weapon. Burse also faces an additional charge of carrying a concealed deadly weapon.
The charges stem from a shooting on February 9 at the Aspen Meadow Apartments, which was investigated by the Hopkinsville Police Department. Shortly after officers arrived at the scene, a gunshot victim reportedly arrived at Jennie Stuart Health with a wound to the shoulder.
Police said the shooting was related to a couple going through a separation. Officers reported that while items were being removed, Thomas and Burse fired a shot into the apartment before continuing to fire shots outside the building.
Cody Dexter of Clarksville was indicted on felony charges of first-degree fleeing or evading police and first-degree wanton endangerment.
The charges stem from an incident on March 30 when Christian County Sheriff’s deputies tried to stop a motorcycle driven by Dexter for traveling 96 mph on Fort Campbell Boulevard. Police reported that Dexter fled at speeds reaching approximately 120 mph, during which his passenger lost her helmet. The pursuit ended near Westgate Construction, where Dexter was arrested.
Donavan Ball and Jordyn Purcell, both of Clarksville, Tennessee, were each indicted on felony charges of first-degree fleeing or evading police, and first-degree wanton endangerment, along with misdemeanor offenses of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
The charges are from an April 22 pursuit when Christian County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to get out with two vehicles parked in a tree line on Barkers Mill Road, and both drivers fled. Authorities said one vehicle eventually stopped on Tiny Town Road near Pembroke, while the other fled into a nearby neighborhood. Deputies reported the driver of the second vehicle was later identified as Ball, and he was arrested on a warrant.
