A Hopkinsville man accused of choking a police officer was indicted by the Christian County Grand Jury Friday on attempted murder and other charges.
A true bill was returned on Carlo Jones on charges of first-degree attempted murder of a police officer, first-degree strangulation, third-degree assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, and menacing.
The charges are from March when Hopkinsville Police reported officers stopped a motorcycle driven by Jones for passing on the shoulder of Fort Campbel Boulevard and Old Clarksville Pike. During the stop, Jones reportedly fought with Officer Johnny Colon over providing a driver’s license.
According to police, Jones bear-hugged Officer Colon, causing them both to go over a guardrail. Police said Jones then started choking the officer to the point of almost losing consciousness.
Officer Colon was reportedly injured in the incident and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
