Conditions Set For Edwards’ Potential Release

Following a Thursday afternoon hearing, Christian County Circuit Judge Andrew Self ordered authorities to change the conditions of Radcliff’s Isaiah Edwards and his potential release — following his arrest after a crash led to the deaths of two bicyclists on Pembroke Road.

Those conditions include:

+ First, the 10% posting of his $100,000 cash bail, or $10,000;
+ That he shall not, under any circumstances, operate a motor vehicle, and that while residing with his grandparents, he shall not have access to operate any of their motor vehicles;
+ That he be confined to home, work, his attorney’s office, medical appointments and religious services, and that he obviously be transported to and from by someone else;
+ That he be subject to random drug testing two times per week, at his expense, through Christian County Alternative Service;
+ And that any other conditions, so set by Christian County District Court, be met accordingly.

Self’s decision came after Edwards and his representation filed a Writ of Habeas Corpus — alleging he was being detained in the Christian County Jail “without lawful authority,” or was “being imprisoned when, by law, he is entitled to bail.”

Self noted that Edwards has been charged with a criminal offense, and was therefore not being detained without authority and was not being held without bail, but that appropriate actions would have been an appeal of the bail set at $100,000 — and not a petition for Writ of Habeas Corpus.

Hopkinsville Police has reported that Edwards was eastbound in his SUV between the Pennyrile Parkway and Eagle Way, when he hit four bicyclists. Two victims, 31-year-old Marlene Martin and 34-year-old Rachel Hoover, were taken by Hopkinsville EMS to Jennie Stuart health before being flown to Nashville hospitals.

Both have since died. Several people reportedly stopped after the crash and started CPR before emergency personnel arrived.

Edwards is currently charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence third offense, but as of Friday morning hadn’t been indicted by a Christian County Grand Jury.
