In a milestone achievement, the Madisonville Community College/Hopkinsville Community College surgical technology program clinched first place in the annual Scrub Bowl competition held recently at Southcentral Kentucky Community Technical College in Bowling Green.

Officials stated that the trivia-style event, part of the Association of Surgical Technologists Kentucky State Annual Conference, gathers surgical technology students from across the state to test their knowledge and prepare for their upcoming certification exams. They said this year is particularly noteworthy, as it marks the first time the Madisonville-Hopkinsville team has claimed the top prize.

The MCC/HCC surgical technology program represents a collaborative initiative between the two colleges to fulfill the demand for skilled surgical technologists in the Pennyrile region. Applications for the 2025-2026 cohort are due by May 1. Classes begin in August.
