Christian County Public Schools and its 2024-25 Leadership Class spent considerable time Friday morning — combing over the bustling new campus for the consolidated high school.

At the helm of the tour: Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jason Wilson — who said he’s probably given this tour at least “30-to-40 times” since construction began.

A main gymnasium, he said, will be able to seat 3,100 spectators with extra space for others.

An auxiliary gymnasium will serve not only as a storage and storm shelter — but also a practice facility. And officials opted for college-sized floors, while college-sized goals and shot clocks will be installed for use during special events and major summer tournaments.

Wilson also noted that a secondary weight room, training room and rehabilitation room will be attached nearby, and close to the gym and recreation areas will be an Academic & Athletic Hall of Fame.

In order to accommodate visiting administrators and districts, Wilson said glass will expose every academy — in order to allow for a non-invasive touring experience.

And each academy will have a personalized entrance, with graphics that will be updated every 7-to-10 years.

The academy model, Wilson said, is going to prepare 2,000-plus freshmen through senior students in one of four ways — and in a number of different career pathways.

Wilson mentioned that one pathway, currently not offered, is being explored — but might be difficult to implement in the future.

Wilson also assured that students knowing what they don’t want to do after high school could be just as important — and that steering committees, comprised of local professionals in multiple fields, will be able to address career trends as time passes.

Tim Geeghan, Alliance Vice President of Construction Management, noted that construction remains “pretty much right on schedule,” and that’s despite the fact that torrential rains this spring have slowed efforts.

Pending good weather, he added that contractors are looking at “a year from now” as the target for turning the completed property back over to CCPS officials. At present, 70% of the building is “under roof,” with the final 30% or so coming through the middle of June.

Geeghan also noted crews are “not too far” from putting in flooring, ceiling tiles, doors and case work, and that permanent power is already available on site.
