Following an insightful presentation from Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 2 Engineer Charlotte Cotton, Christian County magistrates approved the 2025-26 Rural Secondary Road Plan Tuesday morning — allocating more than $1.4 million to needed maintenance during the next fiscal year.
This year’s total allotment, she said, came in at $1.42 million, with a flex fund rolling in at $439,771.
With the $980,000-plus available, she made two recommendations:
1) KY 1027, beginning at KY 756 intersection all the way to KY 115, covering 4.5 miles at $479,866
And 2) KY 1026, beginning at KY 91 north to KY 109, covering 4.4 miles for $493,287
The flex alternate, she said, is a portion of KY 272 from mile point 3.0 to KY 164, with an estimated cost of $437,070.
Even though it’s not county jurisdiction, Cotton did say there will be more paving inside the city limits this year for large portions of Christian.
KY 1296, or Empire Road, is also going to get some attention with major patchwork, but Cotton added there were other projects in front.
The needs, she said, far exceed total available resources, but she also confirmed that KY 695, part of South Main Street, is scheduled to be paved this coming year.
There has also been major progress on Seventh Street, which at some point is going to be widened after the utilities are all handled.
Major road-widening activities should begin in 2026.
