Officials from the Pennyroyal Arts Council are asking the community to nominate outstanding creative leaders for the 2025 Barbara Gardner Art Award.

Submissions are due before midnight Wednesday.

Honoring the late Barbara Gardner—an influential artist and educator whose 45-year career inspired generations in Christian County—the award uplifts local voices in the arts.

Two recipients will be selected: one educator and one student, each receiving a $500 unrestricted cash award. Winners will be announced on May 1.

Kelly Selfe, education coordinator, said the award carries forward Barbara’s lifelong belief in access and creativity for all, and that it’s about “investing in those shaping our cultural future.”

Eligible nominees must live or work in Christian County and represent the region’s rich diversity, including its Native Nations heritage. Educators may work in public, private, or homeschool settings; students must be rising juniors or seniors.

Nominations must be submitted online, and the application with full guidelines can be found on our websites.
