While south southwest winds whipped across the Hopkinsville Golf & Country Club Friday afternoon, so, too, did 30 foursomes — all in the name of the 2025 “Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home” Rotary Club of Hopkinsville Golf Scramble.

So popular was this year’s event, a waiting list had to be created — as local links lovers lined up not only to help the youth and citizens of Christian County, but also to enjoy beautiful weather and an early start to their Easter weekend.

Jake Williams, a Rotarian and scramble co-organizer alongside Josh Ryan, said his handicap sits around a 5.

He has two theories as to why Friday’s event was so well attended.

Behind the $600 entry for teams, more than 35 holes sponsors at $125 each, a considerable bourbon raffle, Baird Private Wealth Management’s lunch sponsorship, a “birdie” contest on No. 17, a Fellowship of Christian Athletes “Longest Drive to the Hole” sponsorships and a few other fundraising implements, Auction Chair Landan Stallons called Friday “the strongest scramble” the club has had since such efforts began in 2021.

In all, more than $25,000 was raised as a jumpstart to next week’s 75th Annual Hopkinsville Rotary Auction.

The winning team received $1,200, with hopes of it being donated back in a “Spirit of Rotary” nod, and the Par 71 course played a little tougher than usual.

Themed “Financing Our Future,” next week’s auction has eight big-board sponsors: Visit Hopkinsville, the Hopkinsville Community College Foundation, Cornerstone Information Systems, Planters Bank, Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority, Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home, Bar B Que Shack and Baird Private Wealth Management.

Each night will commence in downtown Hopkinsville’s War Memorial Building in downtown Hopkinsville, and broadcast each night through original sponsor WHOP Radio.
