Sixteenth District Representative Jason Petrie visited the Elkton Rotary Club on Wednesday to talk about the 2025 legislative session.

Rep. Petrie highlighted just a few of the 146 bills passed and added he’s pleased it was pared down from 175 bills passed during the last 30-day session in 2023.

Petrie chairs the House’s Appropriations and Revenue Committee, which has been a leading force behind lowering the state’s income tax rate. Another rate drop will come on January 1, 2026.

Rep. Petrie also spoke about the funding in recent years that allowed utility companies like Pennyrile Electric and Hopkinsville Electric System and energynet to expand fiber internet services to underserved areas. Todd County is one of the few counties across the state that can boast they are 100 percent served by fiber internet.

Petrie attributed the new fiber connectivity as one of the reasons why Todd County has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the Commonwealth.

Rep. Petrie serves a portion of Christian County and all of Todd and Logan counties in the Kentucky House of Representatives.
