City Of Hopkinsville Waiving Permit Fees Until October

In response to the April flooding, the City of Hopkinsville is waiving permit fees for flood-related repairs through October 31 of this year.

The Community and Development Services (CDS) Department is assisting homeowners and businesses—especially those in the Special Flood Hazard Area (100-year floodplain)—with the rebuilding process.

Hopkinsville Mayor JR Knight said his office knows this is “a difficult time,” and that waiving the fees is but one way to support residents and business owners.

Permits Are Required For:
+ Roof, walls, siding
+ Wallboard, plaster, insulation
+ Flooring
+ Electrical systems
+ Heating/AC units
+ Foundations (excluding emergency shoring)

Permits Are Not Required For:
+ Removing damaged furniture or drywall
+ Cleaning and sanitizing
+ Covering holes or windows
+ Emergency stabilization

Before making repairs, residents should contact CDS for guidance. Staff will provide quick inspections and support throughout the process.

Permits matter because Hopkinsville’s participation in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) ensures access to affordable flood insurance and federal disaster recovery grants. Compliance with permit rules helps maintain eligibility and protects long-term coverage.

One can contact CDS at (270) 887-4285, visit 710 South Main Street, or go to www.hoptown.org/recoveryresources.
