David Staples, 80, of Linton

David Staples, age 80, of Linton, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024, at his home.

Born February 24, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Arthur and Betty (Roll) Staples.

David was a United States Army veteran. A member of Company B, 6th Special Forces Group (Airborne), he served as a radio operator during the Vietnam Era. After his honorable discharge, he worked for many years in insurance sales for Lincoln and AIG, with the majority of his career spent with Horace Mann Insurance.

A well-known and respected resident of his community, David was a member of Linton Methodist Church, where he loved his church family. He was also a dedicated member of the Linton Volunteer Fire Department for many years, even serving a tenure as Fire Chief.

David enjoyed staying busy, whether it was tinkering with his tools, working on vehicles, or just fishing. His greatest pride, though, was his family, especially being “PePaw” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Kenny Frank.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Cardinal Staples of Linton; three sons, John D. Staples (Raysha) of Cadiz, Patrick Staples (Lara) of Linton, and Mike Staples (Morgan) of Clarksville, Tenn.; a daughter, Brandy Smith (Mike) of Leesburg, Ga.; 11 grandchildren, Mack Braziel, Sarah Braziel, Kristina Braziel, Gavin Braziel, Erik Staples, Hunter Walker, Ethan Staples, Justin Gray, Easton Staples, Tyler Staples, and Emmarae Staples; four great-grandchildren, Hunter Braziel, Cohen Braziel, Amelia Braziel, and Ivy Staples; a brother, Richard Staples (Deanna) of Hopkinsville, Ky.; and a sister, Debbie Staples Frank of Henderson, Ky.

Arrangements are being handled by Goodwin Funeral Home, Inc., 138 Main Street in Cadiz, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Thursday, April 18, 2024. Graveside services with military honors will follow at 1:00 PM at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, with Rev. Steve Spitzer officiating.

Memorial contributions can be made to Linton Methodist Church, 16540 Linton Rd., Cadiz, KY 42211, or to Linton Volunteer Fire Department, 6558 Linton Rd., Cadiz, KY 42211.
